Stutteri Eken
It’s father, Nils, and daughter, Åse-Berit, in the Jamne family who are captivated by horse breeding.
Stutteri Eken was established in 2007 when the first show jumping foal was born on their farm in Sigdal. Previously, Nils bred trotting horses, but after purchasing the RDH mare Concordia (by Corland/Lavallo) in 2001, they focused exclusively on breeding riding horses for show jumping. Horses born on their farm carry the S.E. prefix to indicate their origin from Stutteri Eken.
Åse-Berit and her partner Simen moved into a small farm in Lier in 2015 and have been fully responsible for managing the stud ever since. However, the property was sold in 2018 due to expansion plans by Statnett. They then purchased a property in the heart of Vestfold, specifically in Våle, which is close to Holmestrand.
By 2024, twenty foals have been born with the prefix S.E. Their goal is to develop strong jumping lines and preserve valuable traits in existing broodmares while preparing for future generations. As a starting point, they aim to retain the mares, while the colts are often sold as foals if the right buyer comes along.
Background
Åse-Berit also runs the website Avlshest.no, which has published news about horse breeding since 2008. This has provided valuable information and insights into the breeding industry, as well as an understanding of stallion generations. Through her work, she has attended stallion gradings not only in Norway but also in Denmark, KWPN in the Netherlands, and various German approvals in Holstein, Westfalen, and Oldenburg. It’s crucial for breeding progress to stay updated on stallion evaluations and young horse tests to identify promising stallions over time.
Nils has extensive experience in animal breeding, particularly in swine production, where he has run a modern breeding business for many years. He has also bred cold-blooded trotters for several years, gaining experience both on the track and as a breeder.
